U.S. refuses to pay social security old-age benefits

Barak Obama, President of the United States

E – mail

February 10 2014

For over 10 years now, the U.S. Government has refused to pay me my social security old-age benefits.

This refusal is in direct violation of the U.S. Law on Social Security, which contains no political qualifications for receiving one’s old-age benefits. These actions are in violation of the U.S. Constitution (14th Amendment), which forbids the government to deprive an individual of his property “without due process of law.”

The U.S. Government’s Social Security Administration has acknowledged that I meet all the qualifications to receive my old-age benefits and that I have filled out and submitted all the required forms.

In spite of my repeated requests, neither the Social Security Administration nor the U.S. Embassy in Moscow nor anyone else in the U.S. Government has provided an “explanation” as to why I am being denied my social security benefits.

My old-age benefits are not a gift. They derive from the substantial sums that were deducted – directly and indirectly – from my paychecks during all the years I lived and worked in the U.S.

What is happening is a case of out-and-out thievery.

The U.S. Government blatantly violated my human, legal and constitutional rights by conducting a terror campaign that forced me to leave my country and obtain political exile abroad. (See our book «Silent Terror: One family’s history of political persecution in the United States http://arnoldlockshin.wordpress.com)

For over a decade, this same Government has further violated my rights by stealing my Social Security old-age benefits.

All this proves once again that the only law that counts in the United States of America is the Law of the Jungle.

Another Chicago Record: 1,000 Gunshot Victims

Another Chicago Record: 1,000 Gunshot Victims In Shortest Time In Decades

ZeroHedge, April 23, 2016

Chicago is disintegrating amidst soaring gun violence and homicides, in large part due to the deteriorating economic situation. Unfortunately, we now have an update to the state of things in the windy city, and it’s getting uglier.

A 16-year old boy who was shot in the knee marked the 1,000th gunshot victim in Chicago this year, as the city returns to a level of shootings not seen since the 1990’s. This past Wednesday, Chicago reached 1,000 victims months earlier than the previous four years. The number of shooting victims year-to-date is up 66.7% from 2015, and 107% from 2014.

At 1,000 victims, this year’s shooting toll exceeds last year’s total at this point — about 600 victims — by more than 66 percent. At this point in 2014, 483 people had been shot.

As one would guess, the homicide rate has steadily climbed as well, and with 161 homicides year-to-date (as of the time of the article), homicides have jumped 64% from 2015. If current trends persist, the city appears likely to top 500 homicides for only the second time since 2008.

As the Tribune points out, while the violence pales by comparison to the early to mid-1990s when homicides peaked in Chicago at more than 900 a year, the city still continues to far outpace the nation’s two larger cities, New York and Los Angeles.

So far this year, the number of people shot here far exceeds those two cities combined. Through April 10, New York — a city more than three times the size of Chicago — had seen 246 people shot, while in LA —with over a million more people than Chicago — 328 people had been shot through April 16, both departments reported.

Then again, if Obama’s «recovery» continues at this pace, we would not be surprised to see a record homicide year in Chicago soon.

U.S. Suicide Rate Surges

U.S. Suicide Rate Surges to a 30-Year High

New York Times, April 22, 2016

Suicide in the United States has surged to the highest levels in nearly 30 years, a federal data analysis has found, with increases in every age group except older adults. The rise was particularly steep for women. It was also substantial among middle-aged Americans, sending a signal of deep anguish from a group whose suicide rates had been stable or falling since the 1950s.

The suicide rate for middle-aged women, ages 45 to 64, jumped by 63 percent over the period of the study, while it rose by 43 percent for men in that age range, the sharpest increase for males of any age. The overall suicide rate rose by 24 percent from 1999 to 2014, according to the National Center for Health Statistics, which released the study on Friday.

The increases were so widespread that they lifted the nation’s suicide rate to 13 per 100,000 people, the highest since 1986. The rate rose by 2 percent a year starting in 2006, double the annual rise in the earlier period of the study. In all, 42,773 people died from suicide in 2014, compared with 29,199 in 1999.

It’s really stunning to see such a large increase in suicide rates affecting virtually every age group,” said Katherine Hempstead, senior adviser for health care at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, who has identified a link between suicides in middle age and rising rates of distress about jobs and personal finances.

Researchers also found an alarming increase among girls 10 to 14, whose suicide rate, while still very low, had tripled. The number of girls who killed themselves rose to 150 in 2014 from 50 in 1999. “This one certainly jumped out,” said Sally Curtin, a statistician at the center and an author of the report.

American Indians had the sharpest rise of all racial and ethnic groups, with rates rising by 89 percent for women and 38 percent for men. White middle-aged women had an increase of 80 percent.

The rate declined for just one racial group: black men. And it declined for only one age group: men and women over 75.

From 1999 to 2014, suicide rates in the United States rose among most age groups. Men and women from 45 to 64 had a sharp increase. Rates fell among those age 75 and older.

The data analysis provided fresh evidence of suffering among white Americans. Recent research has highlighted the plight of less educated whites, showing surges in deaths from drug overdoses, suicides, liver disease and alcohol poisoning, particularly among those with a high school education or less. The new report did not break down suicide rates by education, but researchers who reviewed the analysis said the patterns in age and race were consistent with that recent research and painted a picture of desperation for many in American society.

This is part of the larger emerging pattern of evidence of the links between poverty, hopelessness and health,” said Robert D. Putnam, a professor of public policy at Harvard and the author of “Our Kids,” an investigation of new class divisions in America.

The federal health agency’s last major report on suicide, released in 2013, noted a sharp increase in suicide among 35- to 64-year-olds. But the rates have risen even more since then — up by 7 percent for the entire population since 2010, the end of the last study period — and federal researchers said they issued the new report to draw attention to the issue.

Julie Phillips, a professor of sociology at Rutgers who has studied suicide among middle-aged Americans, said social changes could be raising the risks. Marriage rates have declined, particularly among less educated Americans, while divorce rates have risen, leading to increased social isolation, she said. She calculated that in 2005, unmarried middle-aged men were 3.5 times more likely than married men to die from suicide, and their female counterparts were as much as 2.8 times more likely to kill themselves. The divorce rate has doubled for middle-aged and older adults since the 1990s, she said.

Disappointed expectations of social and economic well-being among less educated white men from the baby-boom generation may also be playing a role, she said. “It appears this group isn’t seeking help but rather turning to self-destructive means of dealing with their despair,” Professor Phillips said.

Another possible explanation: an economy that has eaten away at the prospects of families on the lower rungs of the income ladder.

Dr. Alex Crosby, an epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said he had studied the association between economic downturns and suicide going back to the 1920s and found that suicide was highest when the economy was weak. One of the highest rates in the country’s modern history, he said, was in 1932, during the Great Depression, when the rate was 22.1 per 100,000, about 70 percent higher than in 2014.

$400 To Cover An Emergency Room Visit

47% Of Americans Can’t Even Come Up With $400 To Cover An Emergency Room Visit

The Economic Collapse blog, April 21, 2016

If you had to make a sudden visit to the emergency room, would you have enough money to pay for it without selling something or borrowing the funds from somewhere?

Most Americans may not realize this, but this is something that the Federal Reserve has actually been tracking for several years now.  And according to the Fed, an astounding 47 percent of all Americans could not come up with $400 to pay for an emergency room visit without borrowing it or selling something

Various surveys that I have talked about in the past have found that more than 60 percent of all Americans are living to paycheck to paycheck, but I didn’t realize that things were quite this bad for about half the country.  If you can’t even come up with $400 for an unexpected emergency room visit, then you are just surviving from month to month by the skin of your teeth.  Unfortunately, about half of us are currently in that situation.

The article where I found the 47 percent figure comes from The Atlantic, and it is entitled “The Secret Shame of Middle-Class Americans“.  It was authored by Neal Gabler, and he says that he can identify with the 47 percent of Americans that don’t have $400 for an unexpected emergency room visit because he is one of them

I know what it is like to have to juggle creditors to make it through a week. I know what it is like to have to swallow my pride and constantly dun people to pay me so that I can pay others. I know what it is like to have liens slapped on me and to have my bank account levied by creditors. I know what it is like to be down to my last $5—literally—while I wait for a paycheck to arrive, and I know what it is like to subsist for days on a diet of eggs. I know what it is like to dread going to the mailbox, because there will always be new bills to pay but seldom a check with which to pay them. I know what it is like to have to tell my daughter that I didn’t know if I would be able to pay for her wedding; it all depended on whether something good happened. And I know what it is like to have to borrow money from my adult daughters because my wife and I ran out of heating oil.

Last year, it was reported that middle class Americans make up a minority of the population for the very first time in our history.

But back in 1971, 61 percent of all Americans lived in middle class households.

So what happened? Well, the big corporations started shipping millions of good paying manufacturing jobs overseas.  Millions of other good paying jobs were replaced by technology, and the competition for the good jobs that remained became extremely intense.

During the good times, the U.S. economy still created new jobs, but most of those jobs were low paying service jobs. At this point, a majority of American workers have jobs that would be considered low paying.  And once you account for inflation, the truth is that our incomes have been going down for years.  According to a study that was released by Pew Charitable Trusts, median household income in the United States decreased by 13 percent between 2004 and 2014.

If you go all the way back to 1970, the middle class took home approximately 62 percent of all income in the United States. Today, that number has fallen to just 43 percent.

A 2014 Bankrate survey, echoing the Fed’s data, found that only 38 percent of Americans would cover a $1,000 emergency-room visit or $500 car repair with money they’d saved. Two reports published last year by the Pew Charitable Trusts found, respectively, that 55 percent of households didn’t have enough liquid savings to replace a month’s worth of lost income, and that of the 56 percent of people who said they’d worried about their finances in the previous year, 71 percent were concerned about having enough money to cover everyday expenses.

Even during the “Obama recovery”, we have seen poverty in America absolutely explode.

To underscore this point, let me just run five quick facts about the growth of poverty in this country by you…

The number of Americans that are living in concentrated areas of high poverty has doubled since the year 2000.

In 2007, about one out of every eight children in America was on food stamps. Today, that number is one out of every five.

46 million Americans use food banks each year, and lines start forming at some U.S. food banks as early as 6:30 in the morning because people want to get something before the food supplies run out.

The number of homeless children in the U.S. has increased by 60 percent over the past six years.

According to Poverty USA, 1.6 million American children slept in a homeless shelter or some other form of emergency housing last year.

How can “the wealthiest and most powerful nation on the planet” have more than a million homeless children?

So no, the U.S. economy is not doing “just fine” – anyone that tries to tell you that lie is simply peddling fiction!

Worried Gulf Residents

Six Years Later, Worried Gulf Residents on BP Spill Health Impacts

Truthout, April 19 2016

In April 2010, BP’s Deepwater Horizon oil drilling platform exploded, killing 11 workers before sinking 5,000 feet to the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico.

Oil gushed for 87 days unchecked, creating the single-largest marine oil disaster in US history.

In response to the disaster, BP used 1.8 million gallons of highly toxic Corexit dispersants in what the oil giant claimed was an effort to keep the oil from reaching shore. Critics accuse BP of sinking the oil with the dispersants as a means of minimizing fines under the Clean Water Act.

«The dispersants contain chemicals that many scientists and toxicologists have warned are dangerous to humans, marine life and wildlife,» IPS reported in 2010, adding:

A March 1987 report titled «Organic Solvent Neurotoxicity,» by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), states: «The acute neurotoxic effects of organic solvent exposure in workers and laboratory animals are narcosis, anesthesia, central nervous system (CNS) depression, respiratory arrest, unconsciousness, and death.

«Several chemicals and chemical compounds listed in the NIOSH report, such as styrene, toluene and xylene, are now present in the Gulf of Mexico as a result of BP’s dispersants mixing with BP’s crude oil,» IPS reported, a situation which other scientific reports show creates a toxicity 40 times worse than the oil alone.

Joe Yerkes is a Florida fisherman who joined the cleanup effort of the disaster after he was put out of work by the oil in his fishing waters.

Yerkes was exposed to both oil and dispersants while cleaning up oil.

«I have spent the years since the spill happened literally trying to survive,» Yerkes told Truthout in 2014. «I’ve lost five friends now who were also exposed to BP’s oil and dispersants, who were unable to seek proper treatment to extract the chemicals from their bodies before the exposure killed them.»

«Not long after his exposure, Yerkes became violently ill, started bleeding from his nose and ears, and began vomiting blood. When he couldn’t get well, he had his blood tested and found it contained high levels of chemicals, which his physician attributed to BP’s oil disaster,» Truthout reported in 2014.

Yerkes said at the time that he had to regularly give himself intravenous treatments of saline flushes and various medications. «I have chronic headaches, a fever, and suffer chronic unbearable pain in my muscles and joints, and have had chemical pneumonia twice so far,» he told Truthout.

A few months after the disaster began, «Dr. Wilma Subra, a chemist and MacArthur fellow, conducted blood tests for volatile solvents on eight people who» lived and worked along the Gulf Coast, IPS reported. What she found was alarming but not surprising.

«All eight individuals tested had Ethylbenzene and m,p- Xylene in their blood in excess of the NHANES 95th Percentile,» according to Subra’s report. «Ethylbenzene, m,p-Xylene and Hexane are volatile organic chemicals that are present in the BP Crude Oil. The blood of all three females and five males had chemicals that are found in the BP Crude Oil.»

Yerkes also had his blood tested, and found it contained the chemicals as well.

Yet now, six years on, untold numbers of coastal residents have been suffering health effects from, they believe, BP’s oil and dispersants. A town hall is being held on April 20, the six-year anniversary of the disaster’s beginning, to bring attention to what some experts are now calling a widespread human health crisis.

Dr. Riki Ott, a toxicologist, marine biologist and Exxon Valdez survivor, told Truthout in 2014 that she had seen «clear indications of widespread toxic chemical exposure across the four-state impact zone of BP’s oil disaster (Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida).»

«It’s pretty clear to me, after spending a year in the Gulf coastal communities during 2010 and 2011, that the suite of illnesses that developed during this time were above and beyond the background level of illnesses incurred in the Gulf,» Ott said at the time.

Ott added that people she was seeing at the time, along the roughly 1,000-mile impact zone, were all consistently describing the same symptoms of exposure to chemicals in the oil and dispersants.

«Medical literature supports that these are the symptoms, and I would expect to see increased rates of early-term miscarriages for women, early developmental issues for children born to women who were exposed to breathing these fumes and vapors, and also continuing chemical hypersensitivity,» Ott told Truthout in 2014.

«I’ve gotten these phone calls telling me. ‘I’m vomiting and I have chest pains, excessive bleeding,’ bleeding from the breasts for women you name it,» Orr says.

Darla Rooks, the captain of a shrimp boat, adds in the trailer, «Our children are dying, our animals are dying, our babies are born premature, birth defects nobody is going to survive this crap.»

Hugh B. Kaufman, a senior policy analyst at the Environmental Protection Agency, has been critical of both BP and the federal government’s response to the disaster from the beginning.

«There was an attempt on the part of the government and BP to cover up the volume of the spill,» Kaufman said. «Because of the financial impact to BP, massive use of dispersants was a part of the attempted cover-up.»

America’s Terrorism

Obama: We Can’t Let Truth Come Out About Saudi Involvement In 9/11, Or Else America’s Terrorism Will Be Revealed

George Washington Blog, April 18, 2016

The director of the National Security Agency under Ronald Reagan – Lt. General William Odom – noted:

By any measure the US has long used terrorism. In ‘78-79 the Senate was trying to pass a law against international terrorism – in every version they produced, the lawyers said the US would be in violation.

And — while Saudi Arabia is certainly a huge sponsor of terrorism worldwide — experts from the right and the left agree that the U.S. is actually the world’s largest sponsor of terrorism.

Of course, it would be nice if everyone — including both the Saudis and Americans — moved past this and stopped committing terror.

But it doesn’t seem like either country is willing to commit to that …
